Round 1 Racing Update

The first round of the 2010 VORBC Off Road racing Season kicked off to a great start on Sunday with the inclusion of the new Craig Todd Honda Blackbird (#33) powered Edge hybrid from Mt Gambier. Showing loads of power through the tight twisting turns and the spectator straight Craig went onto win in his very first appearance at Melton.

He was followed closely by seasoned campaigner Adam Grant in the R1 Pirahna, Steve Beninati in the hybrid design Kawasaki and Dave Davis in his newly repaired R1.

For his first appearance Kane Prime, ably supported in the pits by his dad Terry, also showed some pace until he found that it would all have to wash off very quickly to get around the corners.

In the Intermediate Class, Todd and Don held out Shiralee and Dave in the Pilot by a slim 5 points which was a great first up win for them.

This Class provided some very exciting match racing all day with Shiralee almost finding herself on the lid in the chase through the corners.

A big thanks to Jesse and Aaron who helped out with the lap counting, Sally who did all the paperwork, Dot in the canteen, Chris on the water truck, Dave the medic and Don and Todd who started the day watering the track down with the hoses. Thanks to everyone for helpting to make Round One a big success.

Also a note that the interclub day that was planned for March has been postponed due to insurance issues. Keep posted as discussions proceed. For the moment we have re-scheduled back to Melton. I have mooted the possibility that both clubs might share the cost to hire Avalon later in the year. Stay tuned.

And those that can make it with their buggies (cleaned) will be welcome to participate in a static VORBC display at the Houdini 100 Year Celebration of Australia’s first flight at Diggers Rest on March 21st at the Diggers Rest oval. It will be a big day out with the potential to expose the club to a huge number of people. Go to the Lions Club Diggers Rest web page for all the details.
